Tesla Upgrades Model Y Self-Driving Hardware to HW 4.0 in China, Enhancing Autonomous Capabilities

Tesla has upgraded the self-driving hardware on its Model Y electric vehicle sold in China to Hardware 4.0. HW 4.0 features improved cameras, sensors, and computing power to enable autonomous driving capabilities. The upgrade will be provided free of charge when customers purchase the Model Y in China. Tesla faces rising competition in China from automakers like BYD, Nio, and Xpeng, who are focusing on technology. The hardware upgrade allows Tesla to better compete on features like self-driving as sales pressure mounts.

The Cullinan, Rolls-Royce’s controversial super-luxury SUV (at least to those who can’t afford one) is now its most popular model, and has been given a mid-life tickle-up. The changes for the Cullinan Series II are driven by the evolving Rolls customer, who is just 43 in 2024. And that younger customer wants, says Rolls, ‘bolder forms of self-expression’. On the outside that means new vertical daytime running lights, an illuminated ‘Pantheon’ grille and 23in wheels. Inside, the luxe is dialled up even more, with the likes of a bamboo-based ‘Duality Twill’ interior that has up to 2.2 MILLION stitches and 11 MILES of thread, while ‘Placed Perforation’ seats create imagery through the position of over 100,000 tiny holes. There’s also a Cullinan Black Badge model from the get-go, again determined by that younger customer: when the Cullinan was launched in 2018, over 30% were chauffeur driven; today, it’s less than 10%. There’s more power than standard, an uprated chassis, and no shiny chrome. Do the tweaks keep it a rung above the Bentley Bentayga and Range Rover?
